Greetings!!
The staff and I welcome you to Hartsburg-Emden School District – “Home of the Stags”
We are a small rural school with a long history and a rich tradition. Our size and setting makes it easy to foster good relationships within the school, with a strong sense of community.
Hartsburg-Emden Schools (Hartem for short) is a fantastic place for students to learn and grow. As you read more about us on this web-site, you will see what makes our school special. We have a strong focus on family and community, and our vision to promote student success and happiness. Hartsburg-Emden is totally dedicated to providing a sound education for all our students. We expect high standards, demand good discipline, and seek to stretch everyone to their full potential by providing the necessary support to do so.I am incredibly honored to be chosen as the Superintendent of Hartem. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to ensure that all of our students have unlimited opportunities to choose their future, whether it be here in Hartsburg-Emden or in the global economy. As Superintendent, it is a privilege to be serving the Hartsburg-Emden School District; I am deeply rooted in a tradition of fairness, hard work, and openness. I am available to discuss any concerns that students, parents, or community members may have, or to offer advice.
As you come to know me, you will quickly discover that I am a ‘continual growth’ person. Each and every year, we need to become better at what we do and expand the opportunities provided to our students. I believe that in order for schools to improve, we need to have a strong foundation in place from which to build. I will strive to establish a school culture and climate which is conducive to a positive learning environment. Using researched based modern methods to improve our instruction, while trying to make school a fun safe place for our students is a continuous process.
The key thing I wish to provide as the superintendent is a district office that provides great customer service to our two schools for our students, parents, and community members. We will do our best to provide: high quality instruction; fair discipline; skilled teachers who know students’ dreams, needs and strengths and provide them with the best education possible; families and community members engaged and connected with schools to help students develop.
I plan to continue to listen, learn, and observe things as we move forward. I intend to keep asking: What is working for Hartsburg-Emden School District? What should we continue doing that is helping our students to achieve at high levels? What is getting in the way of our students’ success? Is there anything we should stop doing or change? How do we get ideas and cooperation from all our stakeholders?
School districts are obviously not a one-person operation; there are things that I can do to encourage unity amongst our communities whether it is budget-related or communication-related. I am open to consider ideas or suggestions from the community. I look forward to working with the School Board and having conversations that will help our schools strategic planning process, so we can continue to pursue excellence. School districts will always have challenges, both small and large. But districts like Hartsburg-Emden who are fortunate enough to have quality employees, strong families, and wonderful children will handle challenges with professionalism, become stronger for doing so, and continue to deliver an outstanding education that remains true to local values and beliefs.
Again, it is a pleasure to serve as your Superintendent and if you have any questions or comments about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I encourage you to see for yourself why Hartem Schools are the proud and friendly learning center of our community, please continue to look at our web-site or come in for a visit.
